Paradoxical China

On my last day in Beijing, I took an early morning stroll through the hutongs. The wind was biting and bitterly cold — perhaps explaining the quiet, almost deserted alleys. It allowed me to frame this picture (unlike some of my precedent images that were shot from waist-level). The flat cartoon-like warrior on the poster provided the perfect juxtaposition to the austere bronze handle on the door. The sight summarized nicely my time in paradoxical China where opposites often co-exists side by side…

I’ll need to go back again for a 3rd time…
