Wat Arun

Bangkok, Thailand
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 100 | 10mm | 2.5 sec | F/20

A short and cheap ferry ride from the old city, Wat Arun has beautiful light in the morning.

Ford Truck in the Palouse

Colfax, Washington, USA
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 100 | 10mm | 1/6 sec | F/22

Captured last summer during a week-end getaway to the Palouse in Eastern Washington.  One of those photogenic barns (right outside Colfax proper) that beckon you.  The owner clearly looks after his property and is a very nice man.   I experimented with some HDR rendition but ultimately chose the single processed shot developed in Lightroom 4.

Wat Po at Dusk

Wat Po Temple, Bangkok, Thailand
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 200 | 10mm | 3.2 sec | F/22

Wat Po Temple is truly magical at dusk — and surprisingly uncrowded we discovered.

I tried to create an HDR version of this image in Nik HDR Efex Pro using either a set of -2/0/+2 EV shots or just the -2 and o EV shots. But I been able to create subtle and compelling HDR images from photos taken at night and showing significant light blooming. Recommendations or tips anyone? Meanwhile I processed the -2 EV shot for this blog post.

Fishing Girl

Siem Reap, Cambodia
Panasonic LX3 | ISO 80 | 1/250 sec | F/4.0

One of my favourite images from the trip to Cambodia. I was eyeing this little girl fishing on a rooftop while shooting some HDR frames with my main camera on a tripod. I took over a dozen images of her on my point and shoot before I finally captured the silhouette I had in mind…

Ghost of Prison 21

Tuol Sleng Museum, Phnom Pen, Cambodia
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 100 | 17mm | 1 sec | F/22

Security Prison 21 was once a simple Phnom Pen’s high school. During Pol Pot’s regime in the mid-70’s, it became the largest centre of detention and torture in the country. More than 17,000 people of its prisoners were taken to the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek. Prsin 21 has now been turned into the Tuol Sleng Museum to remember this dark piece of Cambodian history…

On the Khlong

Amphawa Floating Market, Thailand
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 100 | 50mm | 1/50 sec | F/2.8

Amphawa is considered by many to be a much more ‘authentic’ floating market. Despite not being on the main tourist track, it is becoming increasingly popular especially with visitors from Thailand and Asia at large.

Sunset Over the Rice Paddy

Siem Reap, Cambodia
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 100 | 13mm | F/22

Our friend and guide Lim Leangsreng took us to this rice paddy on the outskirts of Siem Reap for one of the many spectacular sunsets we experienced while in the area… The sun may set fast at that latitude — but it does it with a bang!

Namaste

Bhaktapur, Nepal
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 250 | 32mm | 1/30 sec | F/7.1

Children loved to greet us everywhere we went in Nepal…

Monk

Kathmandu, Nepal
Canon EOS 40D | ISO 200 | 200mm | 1/400 sec | F/5.6

From a magical afternoon at Boudhanath where thousands of monks of all ages had gathered to chant around the stupa…
